We are the male and female spouses, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion.
Are girls or women eligible to join the SAL? No. Only males are eligible to join the SAL. Women who are veterans and are eligible to join The American Legion are welcome and encouraged to do so.
Legion membership is open to any Canadian citizen or citizen of an Allied nation who is 18 years of age or older.
History. The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The American Legion. The SAL is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion.
To be eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Legion, you must be a male descendant (son, grandson, stepson, or adopted son) of: a member of The American Legion. a veteran who died in service during World War I or since December 7, 1941.

Yes, you can sign up with USAA insurance if your parents were military members or veterans and are USAA members.

The American Legion values its independence and effectiveness on veterans' issues. This stance is best maintained by neutrality on all individual candidates or political parties. The American Legion, by legal definition, is non-partisan and supports "or opposes as necessary" only issues which impact the Four Pillars.
The national commander is the executive head of the Legion, with full power to enforce provisions of the Legion's constitution, by-laws and resolutions. Each national commander serves a one-year term, after which a new one is elected at the national convention; five national vice commanders are also elected annually.

Who is eligible for combat veterans?

A command spouse is married to someone in a leadership role (commander) within a unit, squadron, battalion, regiment, brigade, group, wing etc. There are no “official duties” or “defined role” for a spouse of a commanding officer.

What is the Legion honor Code?

The legion today
Men between the ages of 17 and 40, of any nationality, may join the legion. Recruits enlist under an assumed name—a requirement known as the anonymat—but a legionnaire may request to serve under his true name after a year of service.
The form DD214 (Member 4 copy only) is the document that discharged members submit with their application to show proof of service. If the DD214 does not show the location and dates where the member was deployed or stationed then additional documentation is required.
Note: c, d, and e are used to help calculate total military service. For example, f. Foreign Service: 10 months, 13 days (time spent overseas for purposes of this DD214) g. Sea Service: Sample shows N/A – could be applicable to Navy and USMC service.
